Job Summary:

Directs the activities of the Surgical Services Department in the following manner: Clinical Responsibilities Responsible for promoting a quality and service excellence culture. Maintains optimal standards of nursing care for patients with consideration given to safety and infection control and constantly evaluates results. Insures that staff provide thorough nursing assessment and nursing documentation for each patient. Insures staff knowledge of various codes (e.g. Code Blue, Code White, etc.) including aspects of care related to the ages of patients served. Insures that all staff demonstrate the ability to provide effective pain assessment, prevention and management. Insures that all patients are assessed for risk or potential of neglect or abuse and makes referrals as appropriate. Guides and directs patient care assessment and the educational discharge needs of patients and their families. Allocates work flow and oversees patient assignments, assuring that appropriate personnel are provided for each patient based on that patient's age, assessment and classification. Attends and encourages staff to attend continuing education programs to maintain knowledge of current practices relative to the unique characteristics of the patient populations served. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development relative to the age categories of the patients served. Maintains clinical skills and assists staff as needed.
