POSITION SUMMARY:
The EMR Technician is a critical member of the healthcare team, responsible for managing and supporting the electronic medical records system. This position involves providing technical assistance, maintaining data accuracy, coordinating with IT support, and ensuring optimal use of the EMR system by healthcare providers and office staff. This position requires a proactive, detail-oriented individual who can effectively manage EMR processes while providing exceptional support to a dynamic healthcare team.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required;
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Health Information Technology, Information Systems, or related healthcare field preferred.
Certification:
- Certification in Health Information Management (RHIT or RHIA) preferred.
Licensure:
- Association* accredited course in Basic Life Support (BLS) (for clinical staff), or Heartsaver CPR AED (for nonclinical staff), and renewal on a regular basis, with up to a three-month grace period after the expiration date.
Skills:
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Strong organizational, time management, and interpersonal communication skills.

Work Experience:
- Minimum of two years of clinical experience in the healthcare field, preferred.
- Minimum of two years' experience working with various computer applications and hardware.
- Experience with electronic medical records, specifically eClinical Works, preferred.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Answer the support phone line, offer technical support, take accurate messages, and process inquiries per protocol.
- Communicate with Information Systems Technologies department (IS) to resolve performance, database, and connectivity issues.
- Update provider schedules in the Electronic medical record system within 24 hours to reflect any blocks, changes, and routine variances, ensuring schedules are available at least one year in advance.
- Monitor system use by all staff, identifying opportunities for improvement
- Develop, add, and maintain letters and within the EMR system.
- Monitor opened workload messages, labs, diagnostic imaging, and referrals, ensuring they are processed according to protocol and correctly assigned.
- Regularly confirm that the Fax-In-Box and Fax-Out-Box are being processed efficiently and notify the EMR support team of any issues.
- Participate in the review and testing of enhancement updates to the EMR system, providing critical feedback for system improvement.
- Maintain EMR configuration files, ensuring all data, including pharmacies, and referring providers, adhere to organizational policies.
- Perform other duties as requested to assist in the seamless operation of the healthcare facility's information management systems.
