Job Description:

 

We are seeking a dedicated Emergency Medicine Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to join our CAH Emergency Department (ED) team. This role is ideal for an experienced Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) who thrives in a collaborative environment and is comfortable managing a wide range of urgent and emergent conditions.

 

As an Emergency Medicine APP, you will primarily provide care to urgent care-level patients (ESI 4 and 5, with occasional ESI 3) within an ED setting. You will function with a high degree of autonomy while also working closely with emergency physicians on more complex cases. This position is well-suited for an APP who values teamwork, clinical excellence, and the unique challenges of rural emergency medicine.

 

Duties:

  • Independently evaluate and manage patients with urgent/emergent conditions in an ED setting.
  • Conduct comprehensive physical exams, including pelvic examinations.
  • Perform a range of procedures, including but not limited to:
    • Laceration repair
    • Incision & drainage of abscesses
    • Arthrocentesis
    • Foreign body removal
    • Management of straightforward dislocations and fractures (including splinting)
    • Epistaxis management
    • Slit lamp and tonometry assessments
  • Collaborate with ED physicians in the management of critically ill or trauma patients.
  • Assist in or complete patient transfers, including calling receiving facilities, arranging transportation, and completing required documentation.
  • Foster strong working relationships with ED physicians, nurses, and hospital staff to ensure high-quality, patient-centered care.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Experience:
    • Preferred: At least 3 years of experience as an APP in emergency medicine, urgent care, or a related specialty (e.g., primary care, surgery).
    • Consideration given to new graduate APPs with strong clinical training.
    • Experience in small hospitals or Critical Access Hospitals (CAH) highly desirable.
  • Certifications (Required):
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
    • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
    • ATLS (Advanced Trauma Life Support)
  • Skills & Attributes:
    • Comfortable practicing in a rural ED setting with physician collaboration.
    • Strong clinical judgment and ability to function independently.
    • Excellent communication, teamwork, and professionalism.
    • Willingness to integrate into a close-knit, rural healthcare team.
