Job Description:
Weeks Medical Center is seeking an On-Call General Surgeon to join our Medical Provider team for a part-time opportunity in Northern NH.
The On-Call General Surgeon will provide direct patient care services to patients of all ages and is a medical specialist who performs surgery for a wide range of illnesses when called on by WMC. These services include but are not limited to diagnose and treat minor and serious injuries or illnesses in the outpatient setting or inpatient setting. The General Surgeon is responsible to patients for consulting, diagnosing, applying treatments, and providing preoperative, operative and postoperative services and is on-call, on a periodic basis, to ensure continued hospital surgical services.
Experience requirements include all manner of general surgery common to a rural critical access hospital. This includes but is not limited to the ability to perform laparoscopic procedures and basic GI endoscopic procedures, including food bolus, when required on-call. Practical experience in a hospital and clinic settings, in-depth knowledge of modern surgical and therapeutic treatments, high level of patience and empathy and exceptional diagnostic & decision-making skills.
Must have excellent interpersonal, time management, decision-making and communication skills, emotionally resilient and ability to maintain a good working relationship with all levels of personnel, medical staff, administration, and the public. Additionally, requires manual dexterity, hand eye coordination & visuospatial awareness.
- The call schedule will be a minimum of TWO weekends per month ongoing- starting on Thursday at 5:00 pm through Monday 8:00 am, which gives someone plenty of time to enjoy all of the adventures Northern New Hampshire has to offer.
- Opportunity to cover additional days will be available some months.
- Must be with-in 60 mins of hospital when on call
- $79.00/hr on call, $255/hr for call-ins more than 2 hours in duration
- Mileage or travel stipend negotiable
- Daily stipend of $175/night for food and housing
- Perfect for someone not ready to retire, or looking for some extra income
Most common on-call cases:
- Colonoscopy
- EGD
- food bolus
- Laparotomy
- Hernia repair
- Cholecystectomies
- Appendectomies
Essential Qualifications:
- Successful completion of a general surgery residency and is certified through the American Board of Surgery.
- MD or DO with an active unrestricted NH Medical License.
- Holds an active DEA certificate.
- ATLS and BLS from the American Heart Association required.
- Preferred minimum of 3 years’ experience due to independent nature of critical access hospital.
