Surgical Technician Intern (Full Time)

Position Summary

The Surgical Technician (Non-Certified) assists surgical teams by preparing the operating room, arranging equipment, and providing support during surgical procedures. This role ensures that all surgical instruments and equipment are sterilized and functioning properly, contributing to a safe and efficient surgical environment.

 

Essential Qualifications

 Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Completion of a Surgical Technician training program preferred.

 Licensure and Certifications

  • No certification required for this position.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is an asset.

 Skills

  • Strong understanding of surgical procedures and protocols.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.

 Work Experience

  • Previous experience working in a healthcare setting preferred.
  • Experience in an operating room or similar environment is advantageous.

 Essential Functions

  1. Prepare and sterilize surgical instruments and equipment prior to procedures.
  2. Set up the operating room with necessary surgical supplies and equipment.
  3. Assist the surgical team by passing instruments and supplies during operations.
  4. Ensure all surgical equipment is functioning correctly and report any issues.
  5. Maintain aseptic techniques to prevent infections.
  6. Monitor and manage surgical inventory and supplies.
  7. Support the surgical team in gowning and gloving before procedures.
  8. Assist in positioning patients on the operating table.
  9. Prepare patients for surgery by cleaning and disinfecting the incision area.
  10. Manage specimens for laboratory analysis as directed.
  11. Assist with post-operative cleaning and organization of the operating room.
  12. Provide emotional support to patients and their families before procedures.
  13. Document and communicate patient information as needed.
  14. Adhere to all safety and compliance regulations within the surgical environment.
  15. Participate in continuous education and training to stay current with best practices.

Please Note: All new hires are required to attend a mandatory three-day orientation at Weeks Medical Center in Lancaster, NH. This orientation provides essential training, compliance information, and an introduction to our organizational culture to ensure a smooth and successful transition into your role. Attendance on all three days is required for onboarding completion.

 

Additionally, if Weeks Medical Center is not your designated home base, you will be eligible for travel reimbursement in accordance with our standard travel policy.
