Position Summary
- The primary responsibilities of the Medical/Surgical Unit Coordinator involve the provision of reception duties and general clerical functions.

Job Requirements
- Education, Required Licenses/Certifications:
Associate's Degree in Secretarial Sciences and two years clerical experience is desirable.
Work Experience, Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
- In lieu of formal education, appropriate work experience may be substituted.?
- Prior experience with data entry/computer systems is preferred.?
- Must possess the ability to relate to and deal effectively with the public.?
- Familiarity with computer applications required.?
- Must have technical aptitude and a willingness to learn software applications used at AVH.

Essential Functions

- Transfers calls, records, and delivers messages.?
- Locates physicians and other personnel at the request of the nursing staff.
- Greets new patients, receives and directs visitors to the unit.?
- Maintains files and an adequate inventory of supplies.?
- Keeps track of charts, recording removal and replacing upon return.?
- Routinely audits charts for incomplete forms, missing signatures, and other required information.?
- Records information on physician order sheet as appropriate.?
- Maintains chart forms in standard sequential order.?
- Reviews and appropriately responds to all physician orders.?
- Schedules appointments for treatments, examinations, and consultations through the completion of proper paperwork and notification of appropriate department(s).?
- Receives all patient related documentation and organizes information in accordance with established format.
- Records admissions and discharges on the daily census record and classification sheet.?
- May occasionally assist with transporting patients to other departments.
- Programs Amplion phone system for staff, answers call lights, and transfers calls to staff as needed.
- Reports complaints of pain to appropriate medical personnel.
- Demonstrates technical aptitude.? Is familiar with computer applications.? Is willing to learn software applications.
Non-Essential Functions
- Posts bulletin board notices.?
- Completes routine forms, maintenance, and purchasing requests in a timely manner.?
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
- Maintains work area in a clean and orderly manner.
